History

The year is 1947. The war in Europe has been finished and a whole continent has to be rebuilt. Far away in the north of Sweden, in the small village of Sikfors, belonging to the municipality of Piteå, lives a farmer named Elof Stenvall. Elof is a simple man, living by his own standards of working out of his own conviction, to have the courage to walk his own path of life.

Elof has mouths to feed and the ongoing urbanization makes it difiicult to make a living on farming the land. The snow lies heavy on the trees as Elof sits down in his kitchen. “There has to be a way to live life and work in these surroundings where I have grown up”, he thinks for himself, “at a place where one can feel at HOME”.

When Elof is done thinking the entreprenur in him has seen the need of sledges for the timber transports in the woods. Together with his brother he then starts what will become the pride of the village, Stenvalls Trä AB.

EXPANSION & COMMITMENT FOR COMMUNITY
The investment into the manufacturing of carpentry products makes it possible for Elof to build his own sawmill, this becomes the foundation of the company and makes it possible to keep the jobs safe to bet on the future of Sikfors village. By the mid 80’s the company is taken over by 3 of Elofs 4 children. Stenvalls Trä has since then developed into a multi-company structure with businesses in various areas.

The fight for the survival of the village has proven to be equally important nowadays as in the late 40’s. When the grocery store was threatened to be shut down it was taken over by a subsidiary to Stenvalls Trä. Next time it was the village school that was threatened to be shut down, it is now being run by associations, private persons and companies in the village. Stenvalls Trä contributes by taking care of the economy. The never ending commitment for the Sikfors village and it’s development is commented by Folke Stenvall, CEO at Stenvalls Trä.

“It’s difficult to explain the importance of the development process of Sikfors village for someone who only looks at the numbers. If we had no school and grocery store here, then no one would be interested in moving to Sikfors. It is of huge importance to us, our whole business is built upon having a competent workforce and we could not make it without them.”

WELCOME HOME

The wood products we manufacture at Stenvalls Trä turn into beautiful furniture and powerful buildings. The leftover materials from the production, like planer shavings and pellets makes perfect animal bedding and heating for our houses. We believe in treating nature with respect and to take good care of what nature has to offer us.

Our company makes it possible for both ourselves and our co-workers to live life and work in a surrounding we have chosen by ourselves. It makes it possible for our children to be educated and grow up in the same environment. That is a true story, a positive side-effect of a conscious investment in the society that surrounds our company.

Without a living society around us there would not be a Stenvalls Trä. People who only look at numbers often fail, we have chosen to be aware of the whole picture, without it we could never keep our history alive.

Next time we cross your mind, ask yourself where like it the most? To us the answer is HOME, in the same place as where we grew up.

Welcome HOME to us at Stenvalls!
